FTTC charges

[link to this post]

I found out last week that FTTC had arrived in the village where I live. Great, I thought, I'll have some of that - until I found out the charges.
A one off installation fee of £100 and the £20 per month cost with 30 day contract I have at present becomes £30 per month with a 12 month contract.
Looking at other providers they all seem to charge similar mark-ups.
BT I assume.

Bigger providers like BT/TT/PN usually wavier the install charge.

Though read the small print. The waiver may only be available on long contracts (18/24 month) or might be considered subsidised by the monthly payments so you'll see some of the charge if you leave before a certain time (like when the free routers were only free if you stayed 24 months, so you ended up liable to pay half if you left after 12 months - there was blood in some forums when people cottoned on to the fact they'd agreed to that).
