Me or them?

[link to this post]

Up to about early November we had quite reasonable download speeds.
Since then, it's got slower and slower to the extent I bit the bullet and contacted AOL.
After a lot of suggesting the blindingly obvious, I actually spoke to someone who suggested a fault on the line and someone will ring to say they are fixing it.
Oh yeh?
Naturally nothing has happened, the speedtest.net usually indicates reasonable speed, but the thinkbroadband and real world downloads come in about a quarter or less although the up load is nice and static.

I'm on the ADSL2+ AOL system and think the problem is from the exchange into their system which suggests not a lot will happen.

Would I be right?

You need to see your line stats to eliminate line faults.

I've got one of the Belkin n600 router/modems and have yet to find where they are.

Probably same as N300

192.168.2.1 in Browser

Press Home at top in Belkin window, only Minimal info available in ADSL Stats. All that is normally required though

I thought I had tried all them already.
I think this one is one of those that has a fault in the hard/software as a lot of the functions don't 'quite' work as the documentation - particularly the wireless section and parts of the DHCP.

Hi Norm,

My only advice is to move to a new ISP.

I had AOL for years, suffering with poor speeds, but I always put it down to distance from the exchange.
In the end, I moved to O2. Download jumped from an erratic 1 to 2 MB to a much more reliable 3.5 - 4. I got much better CS, better hardware, static IP, and it was cheaper too.
I still use the AOL email address, so no need to worry about that.
They even managed to make moving away a pain, to such an extent that I'm afraid I will never touch any AOL / TT / Tiscaly company ever again.
Honestly, do yourself a favour. Move.

You coulda discovered this immediately from your router stats; as indeed can the OP when we get them.

The problem is that we've been OK until early November and the 'level 2' guy actually said there is a fault - only that was 3 weeks ago.

I do know that AOL are fine until something actually needs doing!

Just a few of examples before and since something happened in early November.
Already changed router, filter, leads disconnect, turn off. You name it, I've tried it at my end.
