AOL Fibre Optic Broadband

[link to this post]

My local exchange is just being updated to fibre optic. I pay AOL line rental and so asked if my Broadband package could be updated to allow the faster speeds. They say that they have NO plans to provide that service.
Do they want to lose customers?

It could be that aol do not want to support fttc in the uk. So you need to look else where.

As pointed out AOL is now part of talk talk so if you want fibre perhaps have a look at moving to them.

AOL don't sell fibre BB. For that you will need move to a diff ISP and it does not need to be TT.

You can move provider and still retain access to AOL web mail

I thought AOHell shut down years ago.

I'm stunned. I joined it when there were less than 150 members!

AOL doesn't provide services anymore in the UK. You'll basically be on TalkTalk broadband so best to approach them and they do fibre smile You cannot even order AOL broadband anymore. It's all taken over by talktalk.

Such a shame

In my view AOL was the best internet experience of my life. I wish they were still around. Even the US chat rooms and software has shut down.

They still have 2.9 Million customers in the US

They, AOL BB. do sell service in the UK and they are diff products from TT and, I believe, use their own exchange kit separate from TT. They are a subsidiary of CPW/TT.
Note that even though AOL UK are technically a part of Carphone Warehouse now, they still run separate networks, which is why they appear separately on this site.
AOL has never sold Fibre.

Ah, OK. It must have changed sometime this year. Last time I looked they had their own products.

I'm sure a month or so ago AOL BB was offering their own 8 Meg Partial LLU ADSL2+ BB Only product. They were the only mainstream ISP offering BB Only w/out a surcharge, albeit capped. They also had a 16 Meg Full LLU BB + Phone package which could well have been hosted over the TT network.

I'm talking about the company called AOL BB owned by TT/CPW, not AOL Inc who only own AOL UK in the UK which doesn't do BB cuz they sold it to TT/CPW.

I know, the AOL relationships are unclear and not obvious.

Yes, if you like living in a walled garden cocooned by bloatware.
