Line Speeds gone bad...

[link to this post]

Ok, so i've had BT engineers out everyday this week, trying to find the cause of this speed drop.... still they claim there is nothing wrong....

Been connected on a nice stable 3db profile with gaming mode on for nearly a year with 0 problems.

Suddenly a week ago my SNR started going up and down and line have been dropping randomly all over the place....

Tried new filters, phone, test socket is teh same, Tried the BeBox and my usual DG834GT (which sync's better than the 585). Into the test socket. No difference.

Got another engineer out tomorrow, going to try and get him to check out this junction block that is on the side of the house where the line comes of the pole, i'm sure its got something to do with it.... Its been changed 6 times in the last 4 yeas now...

What are my chances of getting them to fit a new dropwire and get rid of this junction all together do you think?

This is what it used to look like....

.....and now after whatever BT did it looks like this....Half the tones have disappeared! frown

Now i see random drops, SNR is all over the place.

Here's a pic of Router Stats if it helps....

In the Pic above the two big drops are when i was on the phone to BT. What could cause that?

Any help/ideas?

Cheers

This is going to sound daft - but have you at any stage in the attempts to solve it unplugged and reconnected the ethernet cable from the computer end to the router? Preferably swap both that cable and the ADSL cable as well. These things can get damaged, or even in the ethernet cable case look secure but not be.

I think there is always a junction box where the line from the pole hits the house. There can be more later on as well before reaching a socket, and the first socket isn't necessarily the master.

I have indeed, needed to fit a new 5870 the other day so it was all unplugged when i did that...

Not tried another Ethernet cable though, this one is a cat6, but ill give another a go.

EDIT:Actually yes i have, used the Bebox via the other ethernet socket and a 2nd cable on the MB.....

OK. These straws are sometimes the solution though with funnies where connected equipment is playing up for no obvious reason.

Right...

Well i've tried new filters, the original Bebox, different RJ11 and RJ45's. Test socket and not the test socket, phones and no phones etc.

Its nothing in my home as also confirmed by the BT engineers.

Lets see what the next ones says tomorrow.
