OMG! That link didn't start playing for about 5 minutes then just when I had forgotten it started and scared the life out of me. But it only played for a few seconds before stopping and buffering again.

Do you know the IP that you are pulling the streaming data from (netstat /b or cports or wireshark to find out).

Possibly even right clicking on the iPlayer may provide the details.

Very interesting, That is the same server I have identified for my testing (see the note on http://beusergroup.co.uk/).

They seem to be serving podcasts from that server too, weird that the iPlayer content is coming from there too and not from a CDN like Akamai.

I thought the BBC had their own CDN (ie, boxes they owned) either installed at or close to UK ISPs core networks.

Since iPlayer isn't available outside the UK, they don't need a global service such as Akamai ?

Pretty sure I have seen it streaming from Akamai on my own systems at some point.
Also (although how accurate it is?):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akamai_Technologies
"The BBC iPlayer uses Akamai to stream its recorded and live programs, focused through an XML playlist."

I guess they do both? or have recently moved to hosting it all themselves.

Yeah. We'll have to see if anything improves tonight like O2 support told me the other day that it would.

I'm kind of thinking I'll have to change the MAC address on my router and get a new IP to fix this problem as nothing seems to be progressing. I could have done this from the start but I want to know the problem is fixed and not just passed on to the next person given the IP I have now.

Changed my routers MAC and pings are not dropping now.

Users really shouldn't be forced to have to resort to such things because Be* can't work out how to change the routing on an IP range!

This really isn't a BBC issue and all in the control of Be* but they have taken an unacceptable amount of time to resolve this! I wonder if they will ever recover from this and the decline of customers already moving to other providers.

I would imagine that they will do, the lure of x mths free and all that,

But as to if they deserve to recover from this which is one of many issues that have been let drag on far to long, within the past 12mths , i don't think that i need answer that
