If the network upgrade is delayed to 2013, then its goodbye O2/Be as usage is growing month on month and without extra network capacity things will not be good.

Guesswork but possibly down to the costs of getting the exchange LLU kit to accept the FTTC fibre handover.
Really hope o2/be can pull this out of the bag, as would be a shame to see a move away from them by masses.
Yes, updating the exchange kit could be the cost; maybe the DSLAM/ISAMs already in place don't support gigabit connections into the backhaul.
The sad thing is with this pseudo-announcement, a lot of people who can move to Infinity (or Sky when they launch) who might have waited for BE, will probably stop waiting.
