Commented on the news article itself.
I'm really not surprised to learn that the decline continues; I'm with Be*, however my exchange is earmarked for FTTC around September this year.
Currently I'm not seeing the problems with peering or ping times that have been widely reported - my service is still spot on for what I do. I just seek more upstream speed, therefore will certainly be heading to fibre when available. If Be*/o2 haven't made a product available by the time it's available at my exchange, then short of an entirely free connection* there'd be nothing they could to to retain my custom.

I thought the figures werem't as bad as they could be, but most of those leaving will not be factored in probably until the Q2 2012 results

It looks like they've picked up a fair number of phone/BB bundles to counterbalance the disillusioned ones. Other than those, they are probably almost down to hardcore base by now, with many on O2 on superb retention deals costing very little to service.
It's a big jump from O2 prices for unlimited to FTTC prices, if there isn't a pressing need.

Concur - if I move to FTTC it will be for almost the same price as my BE Pro plan (although I'm on a legacy price, so its a bit more).

The approx numbers being quoted in the Feb "talk to the boss" thread on the private forum was around the £40 to £45/month - which would be pointless given Infinity is £28/m and Sky 80/20 is £30/m ! I doubt nobody would pay £15/m for a static IP.
James - be* pro - 16.8 or 17.2mbps BQM
No FTTC cabinet yet (originally Mar 2011) THFB PCP 5 - hope for 21st May to 1 June !

This week O2 lost me as a customer for phone & broadband. I had a monthly spend of £45. I've switched to Virginmedia for the faster broadband. Otherwise, I was happy with the O2/Be service.

Many people already do, with providers such as Zen and AAISP. They are not just paying for static IP but for quality service. If they are using a significant of download they are probebly paying more than £40/45.

True but I suspect Zen and AAISP have less than 600,000 customers combined. They're not really in same league as Sky and BTretail with 3.5 to 4 million subscribers each.

Zen and AAISP have less than 600,000 customers combined . I agree, not in the same league as the big ones. But BE plus O2 is around that size, BE is much smaller. When/if BE finally announces fibre it will take a small proportion of the market (just as BE was a small proportion of the ADSL/ADSL2 market). Neverthless, it will keep and even add to a loyal following as long as it [1] retains it's excellent customer service, [2] recovers its (hopefully temporarily) tainted reliability record, [3] remains within a reasonable price for a quality unlimited service.
Back to my original point, most people won't pay £15 for static IP, but might well for quality unlimited service.

Well i wouldn't be surprised if there isn't any fibre offering for at least another 12mths maybe even next 18mths time,
Just look at the plans to roll out this "new network" even that keeps getting delayed , then there is all the other issues with peering etc , It wouldn't be surprising if we seen more related issues within the next 6mths
I'll give credit where i think it's due but I'll also be very vocal about the failings too, I personally do not have much faith in any of their blurb anymore
