Constant disconnects

[link to this post]

Hello,

My connection has become very erratic over the last 72 hours. It will not keep sync for more than a few minutes, sometimes not even 30 seconds, but other times it will stay for a couple hours.

Can someone please advise as to what could possibly be causing this? I am connected into the test socket as advised by Be so they can do some monitoring, but it doesn't appear to be any closer to what can be the cause. I have also run a quiet line test which is mainly quiet, but sometimes there are crackles, which indicates its intermittent but BT claim that these errors would show up. I was on the optimise for speed on fast path with no problems for many months. It will now not stay connected even on the reliable option with interleaving.

Thanks.

Try leaving the router off for 5-10 minutes, then try again. It could be heat related; 5-10 mins should be long enoguh for it to cool down.

..if that fixes it, then you might be needing a replacement router or power supply for it.

This is not the case. I have tried two routers with the same results.

Do you have the latest firmware for the router? Assuming you're using a BE supplied TG585v7:

"quiet line test which is mainly quiet"

As the name suggests a QLT is quiet. There should be no noise whatsoever. If I was you I would pursue that line of enquiry.

I had intermittent crackling on voice calls and turned out to be water ingress at the cabinet. The engineer moved the wires and we've had no issues on voice calls since.

The broadband wasn't affected much but since we've had no issues at all.

Was Eclipse Home Option 1 & VM 2Mb
Now O2 standard

A quiet line is quiet as opposed to silent. If your ears are good enough there will be at least a very, very small amount of background hiss. This is normal and does not constitute a fault as far as Openreach are concerned.

Your upstream sync is lower than it should be, for that attenuation and your upstream Snr is way out , which in turn maybe caused by a degradation of some of the ADSL tones,/bins , the underlying cause could be a number of things , some which are totally out of your control, but once everything within your control has been ruled out such as ADSL filter fly lead (router<>filter) Router any other device connected to the Adsl filter>test socket ,

BTW Do you have a plasma tv?( some are known to emit EMI interference that plays havoc with ADSL frequencies ) Once everything your side has been ruled out , then it's down to a bt line plant fault(cable hr type fault) or a fault with the equipment at your telephone exchange , but convincing be of the later seems impossible as according to them their equipment is infallible , and i'm Elvis Presley
In fact getting them to even accept that there is a fault can be problematic too, they seem to be refusing to request engineers these days ,compared to a time they would offer an engineer all too readily (some instances of this lie within the be members forum)

Hi, thanks for your reply.

The problem is now solved as a BT engineer was required whom explained there was an imbalance in the cabinet. I have been connected without a single drop since last Wednesday. smile

Out of curiousity, what can you hear on a "quiet line test" now?
