Broadband quality

[link to this post]

Hi

I am living in Bristol and have a virginmedia hub, I am also using a vodafone sure signal box to boost my mobile signal, i work from how so computer is used all day.

I have found the connection to be very unreliable and also the call quality on my mobile very bad, vodafone have run tests and they say its due to latency on the connection, so I have been monitoring it please see findings below.

These are some varied results over the last month, should i be expecting better?

We cannot access the pictures if they are stored on your local PC, you need to provide the link to the public copy.

If the computer is being used, and the connection being used, this in itself can have an impact on the latency. So to asses the issues with the connection, you need to look a tthe periods when you were doing nothing with the connection

Goto http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/monitors.html and copy the link that is generated when you press Share Live Graph or Share Snapshot Graph and post the resulting link

You can see how I started in my office around 8:20 this morning, the other spikes before that generally arise from the fact I have some machines always on and doing stuff.

Thanks for your help, hope this now works

Looking at your graph the average and max latency is much lower than mine.

Looks very like you are in a Virgin Media area where the network is congested.

Which periods of time on that graph was possibly you connection?

Cable services due to the way they work can suffer from latency issues compared to ADSL, but it should be possible for a provider to provide a good quality service.

Hi

Thanks for your replies, I am constantly connected to the internet but like i say only web pages. emails being pulled in, the very occasional video, no music streaming.

I am far from happy with the service, at night after 6 its much worse and sometime impossible to stream videos etc...

Would these problems be leading to bad phone line through the sure signal box?

Am better off moving to something like BT Hub?

Thanks

If streaming video is problematic that the sure signal which is just another streamed service really would also suffer.
