Your opinion on our connections please

[link to this post]

Preamble
We have two business ADSL connections with Plusnet following an unsuccessful attempt to install fibre (we're too far from the cabinet for fibre to work). These are connected via netgear modems which are load balanced through an accompanying netgear switch. We are a small business with 3 wired connections, 1 wireless connection and ad-hoc wireless users (mobiles etc).

Connection speed/real-world usability has deteriorated from poor to unusable.

We have a catalogue of BTW speedtest screenshots showing speeds of 0-14Mb down, 0.1-1.5Mb up and ping latency between 0's and 00's of ms.

Plusnet say there is no problem with the line and are asking for an unfeasible amount of logged BTW speedtests. The situation is exacerbated by BTW not displaying the IP being tested and us not being able to direct traffic with the required granularity.

My request
So, your opinion on the two TBB connection monitors please:

Daytime blips suggest actually using the connection in the office, a lot depends on what the connections are doing in the evening e.g. are all the PC's off and no-one in the office, particularly as one line shows high activity between 8:30pm and 10pm.

For the speed testing doing this across load balanced hardware may confuse things, best to test each line individually. Plus what are the connection stats for the ADSL lines, i.e. sync speed, attenuation and noise margin are this totally stable or wandering around at all?

The connection is in use until around 10pm on most days, this may fluctuate slightly but is a good rule of thumb.

The problem we have with speed testing the lines individually is that it would involve us manually disconnecting each line in turn to force the traffic through a specific IP. As the schedule which PN have asked us to do this over is quite demanding it is completely impractical for us to do.

With regards the line stats that you asked for, how might I go about retrieving this information?

From the quality monitor it seems to me our connection is *fine*. It's just struggles when we try to use it for demanding, heavy-lift tasks such as loading BBC News or opening a small, static database.

Plusnet have provided some stats in reply to our fault ticket. This is for the graph 'WAN2' (I can't seem to post a picture so will write down everything):

xDSL Status Test Summary
Sync Status: Circuit In Sync

General INformation
NTE Status:
NTE Power Status: PowerOn
Bypass Status:

Upstream DSL Link Information
Loop Loss: 25.3
SNR Margin: 5.5
Errored Seconds: 0
HEC Errors: 0
Cell Count: 2211107
Speed: 1133

Downstream DSL Link Information
Loop Loss: 42.00
SNR Margin: 4.8
Errored Seconds: 0
HEC Errors:
Cell Count: 42409275
Speed: 8516

Maximum Stable Rate (KBPS): 7968
Mean Time Between Retrains (Seconds): 86400
Indicative Line Quality: A

Fault Threshold Rate (KBPS): 6374
Mean Time Between Errors Upstream (Seconds): 1168
Mean Time Between Errors Downstream (Seconds): 94

CLT: Pass

They have advised that "No fault found but SNR is 3db so will up to 9 based on loop loss"

We do not have this data for the other line.

BBC News is a long way from a heavy lifting task.

A 6 Mbps connection should do that reasonably well, time to break one of the connections away from the load balancing and verify that the issue is NOT the load balancer.

The quality monitor is about small packets, the load balancer may be introducing DNS delays or other issues if the balancing is not working well.
