Results using current & old flash speed tests very different

[link to this post]

Hi

I'm trying to understand why the download results from the current broadband speedtest here ...
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest
... and the old (flash) speedtest here ...
http://labs.thinkbroadband.com/flashipv4
... are so different.

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest produced this ...
https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/15046048635...
Avg TBB Download 0.5Mbps
Avg HTTPx6 Download 1.5Mbps

Whereas, http://labs.thinkbroadband.com/flashipv4 produced this ...
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html...
Avg TBB Download 15.8Mbps
Avg HTTPx6 Download 14.87Mbps
Note: The link to the results for the old speedtest doesn't work for me, but I've added it anyway in case it's something I'm doing wrong.

Note also that the results using the old flash speedtest are similar to those I get from this ... http://speedtest.btwholesale.com

I'd really appreciate it if someone can explain this.

Many thanks!

Got any plugins installed in your browser? What browser and OS?

Always worth double checking the PC with a second browser, Flash will generally be more constituent across browsers, but as browser manufacturers try to do more clever stuff it can sometimes get in the way of activity.

Might also be worth trying https://labs.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest i.e. loading test over SSL which should remove 'software in the middle'

A much less intensive graphically version is http://labs.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/?site=omega... which might help if the browser is using a lot of CPU time

Many thanks for the pointers and links.

I'm using Firefox. Just updated to 52.3 esr. Also tried disabling all plugins. http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest still not working well for me.

But at least I have a couple of options ... and I now know it's not BT Wholesale playing tricks blush/

Cheers!
