BQM has a higher ping than other sites and f8lure??

[link to this post]

Hi,

I'm attaching a picture of pings to Google, BBC, f8lure, thinkbroadband and the BQM IP.

It seems that the BQM is significantly lower than the rest of the tests?
Is the BQM having network issues?

You are supposed to set up the BQM to ping your router. Not ping the BQM address itself. It is likely to treat incoming pings with low priority, as it is pinging and receiving the replies of tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of sites like mine.

What does a BQM show?

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - AAISP Home::1 80/20. 200GB. Sync 01/10/18 - 71908/13506Kbps @ 600m. BQMs - IPv4 & IPv6

I was just showing that it was both sides ... I guess I forgot the graphs!

F8lure shows it going back to normal:

BQM shows it doesn't:

ISP is Origin Broadband with a static IP (no CGNAT).

My down speeds are also only 36mbps which seems really low:
Impacted fttc says 55.5 - 35, clean is 57 - 40 down. I get about 10 up.

Why do you think it is the BQM?

F8lure showed something happening at 2am, but improved later.

To me this looks like the ISP has been playing around with networks/routing - certainly no evidence for any blips overnight on the BQM I monitor so the pingbox is behaving

That's fine then, I just wanted to know if it was ISP end or BQM / BQM's ISP end.

How annoying ... I liked having <10ms graphs frown

Definitely looks to me like its at the ISP (or its underlying provider). We can tell a lot from the graphs, but zilch from your first post smile.

The short return to normal just before 4am on BQM is also reflected in the f8lure graph. I suspect Origin use the latter themselves, so were happy when they got it fixed.

I assume the red patches after 9am were you rebooting your router?

Yeah, I turned it off for 30 minutes hoping that'd make a difference...

Is it worth mentioning this to origin or is it normal?

If real life responses browser and download/streaming responses are fine, (so you have nothing to worry about), they are unlikely to be interested in their links to thinkbroadband.

The main use of the BQM and f8lure is to show up strange departures from their normal patterns, and congestion and instability problems. The base line on a particular monitor is less important, though it is odd that your BQM base line hasn't dropped back like the f8lure one.
