BBC Iplayer and Homehub unhappyness

Hi all,

wonder if anyone else suffers the same problem and/or knows the solution.

When watching streaming video through BBC Iplayer, about a minute into the video the home hub either loses WAN connection or wireless connection for no aparent reason.

I can reproduce this quite happily either from the wireless connection on my laptop or wired from the main PC.

Likewise I get similar problems streaming video on my Xbox 360?

any clues? Get a decent router is a valid option if you are prepared to recommend a good one, my old Zyxel did me proud until I needed 801.11g and WPA and took the BT option

Well, I would try a couple of things,

1) Get the newest available drivers for your wireless card and see if that helps.
2) Try changing the router's wireless channel - 6 or 11 are quite good usually.
3) If that doesn't improve matters, try disabling all wireless encryption, then nudging upwards in steps,

None - WEP64 - WEP128 - WPA

and see how that goes. TBH I only use WEP here, but then my walls are about 3ft thick...

Have you had BT send you a replacement Hub? It may be worth trying that first as it should be free.

Is you xbox connected via wireless?

Not sure why you think that the BT Home Hub is not 'a decent router'

I stream through one all the time with no problems, including the BT Vision box.

IT is odd that you are losing the WAN and two differnet LANs. How does this manifest itself in more detail?

yes the xbox is connected wirelessly

When viewing iplayer via wireless, the internet led on the homehub would go out at a particular point in the video clip (and always the same point) after a while the hub would cycle and reconnect. during that time it is impossible to even connect to the hub

When viewing the same clip wired, at a different point in the clip, the wireless led went out and the same router got stuck in the same condition until it cycled and reconnected

Really the next official step is going through and resetting the hub to factory settings. Best t call up tech help who will talk you through it all and arrange a replacement if needed. All free of charge.

Now *that* is [censored] weird.

57 seconds in, the video stops playing, tries to buffer, but the connection dies.

My router reboots. (and loses sync speed, dammit)

Most odd. I think I'll avoid playing that again!

Currently on 4 minutes, why the BBC video doesn't work in Firefox I don't know. Working fine in Opera though
