8kb per second? Or 8 kB per second. Still atrocious, but more likely.

My domains, website and mail hosting - Tsohost. Internet connection - IDNet Home Starter Fibre. Live BQM.

kb or Kb = kilobits, see your connection speed, (some routers call it bandwidth), and the speed reported by speed testers - sometimes expressed in Mb, megabits.

kB or KB = kiloBytes, the speed reported by most download programs. A Byte is one character of data and is what file sizes are measured in, so Bytes/kBytes/MBytes are a more sensible measure than the bit speed. for these programs. Kbps/Mbps is more sensible for speed testers, see the next paragraph.

One Byte is eight bits in the systems we are talking about, though on some computer systems a Byte can be a different number of bits. The reason it can be different is that there are many different character sets and many ways of holding them, but the essential property of a byte is that it holds one character.

Thanks Roberto, that explains alot but do you think that the BT throttling would cut my speed down that much?

Cheers

Not an expert on streaming I'm afraid, but throttling to 8kBps sounds extreme, and unlikely. No doubt you will get responses soon from BT users.

What does a BT Speed test show when things are bad? (Post the full results as far down as the end of the upstream figures. The verbiage below is no use to us). I can at least help with seeing if it is your line rather than the BT service.

Speed test conducted whilst on phone to BT and she even said it was reading 7Mbs. She checked the line as well and said it was fine.

I guess I will just have to put up with it.

I was on the phone for about and hour trying to get them to explain.

Thanks anyway for the help

Click the speed test link I gave you. It will give us important information about your connection. Never rely on what (most) ISP support people tell you.
