BT Business Infinity speedtest IP Profile 18352kbps?

[link to this post]

Hi,
I have had BT Business infinity for 1 week. I noticed that the speed started off at 30+mb but has gradually been coming down and is now at 18mb. I tried the BT speed test and it said that the IP profile is 18352kbps, is that the max speed I can get?

The green box is about 25metres away and the exchange is 0.6miles (google maps). Surely I should be able to get better speeds?

At home the green box is about 25metres and the exchange is 1.5miles and I get over 32mb most of the time.

Is there something I can do?

It sounds low ... can you monitor it for a few days maybe with a power off reboot first thing in the mornings (they do not always seem to auto resync).

I have recently come across another line where they were able to get 30+ after a manual resync but then a auto resync would occur and it would drop to 20 or below. Gut feel on that was a that there is a noise problem that causes sync to drop and the noise is still there a few seconds later when the modem resyncs. Could be you have a local intermittent noise soucre/problem.

Are you 100% certain that the FTTC cabinet is just 25 m away and the normal cabinet is adjacent?

If so, call the helpdesk and explain - they can try resetting the profile and margin and may have visibility of data that you cannot see. Stress te proximity of the cabinet and that something appears to be going wrong as you do get 30M + sync.

Also, check your internal wiring and any electrical/electronic equipment nearby. Do your tests with nothing else connected and using the socket behind the master faceplate.

There is no test port in a fibre installation.

Yes there is. Just remove the VDSL faceplate, as there is nothing special about it, and use the test socket either without a filter or with a standard one.

Just like a standard fiter, all the filter in the VDSL faceplate does is restrict the frequency range passing to and from the premises phone system to phone ranges. So the ADSLx/VDSLx frequencies don't make the phone unusable, and other noise arising inside the premises outside the phone frequencies doesn't get back onto the line out of the premises and possibly screw the broadband signal.

Your ISP in your profile is out of date. Perhaps your connection info too - if you are on FTTC?

Thanks - only been a year or more since I changed ISP's wink

With regards to the "test port" on fibre, you live and (sometimes) learn, however the help desk won't ask you to try it, as it's part of the Openreach installation and shouldn't be interfered with.
