Using BT Infinity Home Hub 2 - for voip (BT TALK-HUB PHONE)

[link to this post]

Hi,
My local exchange has just been enabled and I've been offered BT Infinity. The main downside I see (aside from the cost) is that my Home Hub phones will no longer work with the new Home Hub router.

I've bought off eBay one of the early Home Hub 2.0 Infinity boxes that came with a Home Hub phone.

Question: has anyone had experience of having Infinity installed with a Home Hub 3, removing the hub and replacing it with the Home Hub 2.0 Infinity version and getting the BT talk service to work over the Home Hub phones?

Please I'm looking for actual experience not speculation - I can do that myself!

Thanx

Unfortunately once you place your order for infinity your broadband talk account will be cancelled. Only those people who got infinity installed before August 31st 2010 have been allowed to keep their broadband talk accounts.

allylfc,
Thanks for the update. It's sad that BT remove technology that although niche has been working well for years!

Think I'll hold off a little while, at least.

allyflc,
Can you confirm that you've tried this with a BT Home Hub 2.0 Infinity and that it doesn't work?

The reason for asking is that the BT site says that the softphone still works indicating that the BT Broadband Talk number / account is still active.

On the business Infinity service, I use VOIP through a BT supplied 2wire2701HGV-C router. So, if you cannot get te HH2 to work, then try sourcing a 2701.

MHC,
Good thought, does it work as a DECT basestation like the Home Hub, or is it wired?

Also, do you need to set up a voip account with BT or does an existing Broadband Talk account work?

Wired with a splitter to give two lines on different ports. I use it with a new BT VOIP number and a Broadband Talk number.
