Can I get faster Broadband

[link to this post]

Hi I hope someone can advise me.
I have been with BT for about 3 months now and I thought I would get about 6mps down speed from the figures given when I signed up.
I dont understand the home hub stats but perhaps someone can tell if I am likely to get any faster speeds, here are the Speed test and Hub stats.

ADSL Line Status
Connection information
Line state: Connected
Connection time: 0 day, 07:47:41
Downstream: 3,531 Kbps
Upstream: 1,067 Kbps

ADSL settings

VPI/VCI: 0/38
Type: PPPoA
Modulation: G.992.3 Annex A
Latency type: Fast
Noise margin (Down/Up): 5.6 dB / 6.4 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up): 44.5 dB / 23.4 dB
Output power (Down/Up): 0.0 dBm / 12.7 dBm
FEC Events (Down/Up): 0 / 0
CRC Events (Down/Up): 69804 / 187
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
HEC Errors (Down/Up): 16951 / 192
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 118

This is my BT speed test

FAQ

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.

Download Speed
2.49 Mbps

0 Kbps 4 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Download speedachieved during the test was - 2.49 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1.2 Mbps-4 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 3.4 Mbps

2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.

Upload Speed
914 Kbps

0 Kbps 832 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 914Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 832 Kbps .

These tests were done with BT Homehub3 plugged into the test socket on the master box.
I do not have any other phone sockets in the house.
I am about 3.4 kilometres from the exchange.

I do not understand any of the above test results so perhaps someone could advise me in simple terms.

I had a similar problem at a previous address and was advised to have interleaving switched on.

Thanks in advance.

In reply to a post by Greigster:
Downstream: 3,531 Kbps
This should be at least 6 Meg, resulting in speedtests of > 5 Meg.

Have you removed ring wire, swapped filters, .. ?

You should get your best speeds from test socket. For some reason you didn't?

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 19 Meg WBC

Thanks for your fast reply,
This master socket was installed by BT 3 months ago, would they have connected a ring wire? I dont have any extension sockets, I only have the BT master socket. I have tried another filter but got the same results.

Did BT advise you to try another router/broadband lead/filter (or offer to send you a replacement router etc.) at the test socket before the engineer's visit was booked?

Hi , no I was not offered another router etc. but for BT to arrange an broadband specialist visit so quickly seems a much better option to me.
The engineer visited my house today and tested my socket using his testing equipment and came up with the same results that I came up with when I did a speed test/router stats, which I presume confirms that any problems are further "up the line".
He went off to do something at the cabinet and said he would have to do something at the exchange.
I dont know if he has finished yet but my broadband seems slower that ever. Perhaps I have to wait for things to settle down?

Here are my latest test results:-
