I want to be Btinternet not Openworld

[link to this post]

I've had BT since the days of the 'frog' modem and I've always been @btopenworld, even though @btinternet email reaches me OK too. Trouble is that I can't send emails as @btinternet. How can I configure my account so as to be free of Openworld once and for all?

Probably no way. But you could have infinitenicks@geoffnet.co.uk or geoffnet.me.uk for under £2pm.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,website and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet Extra Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 53.7/14.9Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Not if the server enforces a specific from address or from domain - some ISPs do.

True, but does BT?

Those that block other port 25 SMTPs tend to allow any From addy, because they prevent use of those From addys thro' their native SMTPs.

Orange certainly does. I wonder who now provides Orange's mail servers? Could it now be BT?

I think BT used to, at least on one service they offered.

Orange also used to block any other SMTP servers. I can't recall if it was just a port close, or if they redirected back to their own SMTP servers.

BT's mail is largely on Yahoo's infrastructure now.. Orange's still seem to point to the old freeserve platform.

That's what I said! Orange always and still block all foreign port 25s; there's no redirection.

That's just domain naming, not necessarily any particular platform. They also still use the Wanadoo & Orangehome domains, interchangeably. The Q is where are they hosted?

What's that? It's just a domain registration. It doesn't tell you where it's hosted.

That's where the MX record is hosted, i.e where the mail goes.

The domain does tell you this and is not "just a domain registration".
