BTYAhoo Email on Mac Mail

[link to this post]

For the last few days BTYahoo mail has failed to work on my Mac (Mail version 6.5 on Mac OSX 10.8.4). Before that everything was fine. I can still access my mail through Web Mail.

A note on the BT Service Status pages says, "If you are having problems sending or receiving email, you must change your password at www.bt.com/changepassword." This has absolutely not effect at all.

My wife who also uses a Mac and has a couple of sub-accounts off our main account is not affected!

Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this or have we just got to wait for the problem to resolve as BT transition mail to the new provider?

As usual the techies in India have not got a clue and just babble on about Windows settings despite repeatedly being told its not a Windows machine.

POP3

No error messages. All BT mailboxes showing the offline symbol

SMTP is working - able to send email.

Think I may have solved this by trial and error.

Deleted one account and then re-set up from scratch and it worked.

Have done the same with all my other accounts and they are working . . . for now.

Will report back if anything changes.

it's a POS that fails frequently. If SMTP works your password is ok.

Mac Mail keeps screwing up on several of my accounts. It really is a poor program. Funnily enough, iOS mail works without a problem.

Its only the BTYahoo accounts that screw up on mine, so its not Mac Mail that's the problem in my case. I never have a problem with three other providers

The BT Yahoo account also screws up on my Mac; but not on any other mail client (Windows, iOS, or Linux). By all means call that a problem with the BT Mail, but I regard it as a fault with Mac Mail. The more so because I have similar problems with a couple of Hotmail accounts.

Been having the same issue - a change of password seems to have flushed it (re-entering in both mail and system preferences)

*Touches wood*

Identical issue on my iOS devices solved in similar way (I wondered if it was something to to with BT changing platform)
