Complete slow down

[link to this post]

I have been with BT Broadband for over a year now and the speed up until a month ago was fine 2.8mbps (I live quite a distance from the exchange) I now get 1.15mbps

However week after week the connection has just gotten slower and slower to the point I can no longer stream netflix at any decent quality.

For the past few weeks openreach have been working on the cabinet I am connected to and also the new fibre cabinet which is not yet live yet. Could this be the cause of my speed drop? I am only asking as everytime I see them working on the cabinet I get a speed drop and allot of the time I have to reboot the router as the ping times are in excess of 5000ms so I cannot access the net.

You need to dig out the connection statistics from the router to get a real idea of what may be going on.

What was the connection speed?

You would expect to be in the range 2100 to 3600 Kbps with that attenuation.

Is your upstream speed 448 Kbps? If so the issue may be that the connection is wandering around in speed, and the IP profile is behind the times, which it will be on the old ADSL only network.

So running at half the speed it should, at least IP profile does not seem to be the issue.

Once they've stopped fiddling it might be worth swithing router off and on again to see if it picks a better speed again. Other than that its report the issue to the ISP and a long wait
