HH 5 Connection

[link to this post]

Hi

I have just ordered Infinity from BT.
Will I get the modem and HH or only the HH.
This was on my order:-
Getting ready for your engineer visit

Make sure your computer's on and ready before your engineer arrives.

Have the equipment we've sent you and any computer passwords handy.

Check your computer meets the minimum requirements at www.bt.com/installinginfinity

Check you've got power near your phone master socket so your engineer can plug in your new Hub. If you haven't, no problem. Your engineer can run an Ethernet extension cable (up to 30 metres long) from where you can plug in your Hub back to your phone master socket. This extension can only go along walls - not under carpets or floors - so move any furniture away from walls that may need cabling.

The question I have if only having the HH is can I run my own ethernet cable, if so what wiring configuration should I use on the connectors, 568A, 568B or crossover.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can run your own Ethernet cable.

Use either 568A or 568B, so long as you use the same code on both ends and you follow the chosen code correctly - electrons don't care about the colour of the plastic insulation on a wire but the system will eare if you get the wire pairings incorrect. In my experience, 568B is far more common, but it's up to you.

Don't cross the cable.
