Can I have BT Infinity and keep physical phone line ?

[link to this post]

Before BE I had BT adsl (8 yrs or so ago).. I remember that I could manage to find a pure broadband service (whithout the hub) which let me have normal physical phone line at the same time (without that voip malarky).

I am a bit paranoid so I'd like to have a normal phone in case of emergency.

Is it still possible to buy just a BT internet service without cutting the phone down ?

That's a puzzling question. I'm not aware of any UK broadband that stops you using the landline normally.

The answer is Yes.

Neither the broadband nor the line rental have to be from BT Retail.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 59.4/14.4Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

wait a sec.. what the hub does? it converts your phone calls into voip calls..

what the difference you say? it is very simple. if your power is cut - you cant make the call through your hub..

if you had 'normal' phone however - you could

(unless you exchange had power failure too - which would be really in case of a truly catastrophic event - like a nuclear blast within 100 mi)

please tell me I am wrong smile

The old home hubs used to have an ADDITIONAL voip line, the current HH4 an HH5 do not.

In all cases the physical telephone line still works if you plug a phone into the phone socket on the faceplate or micro filter

So you are wrong

I think you have been misinformed. You have a normal landline which also carries the broadband. VOIP is something else entirely. I belive that BT broadband used to come with (an additional) VOIP service but it doesn't now.
