HH5A - New Firmware Trial (Hopefully resolves G.INP issues)

[link to this post]

Just got an email from BT Trial team about a new firmware being deployed this evening to my HH5A.

Email below:

Hopefully it resolves the G.INP issues.

Trial has been running several days before this post and is now complete, i was on it and have seen a huge improvement on my hub5a, so much so im now going to ditch my white modems into the cupboard until the next problem comes our way (prob vectoring). The mods have informed us that openreach are now ready to roll it out and it will take several weeks to complete.

I also believe its not hub firmware but more "background" or even DLM changes as my firmware has not been changed.

The BT trials teams recruits people of ALL abilities including those who need instructions for every small task or change. They are not just checking te hardware and software functionality but the documentation too.

We seem to be talking about two different things in this thread.

You're talking about the Openreach trial to find a solution for the additional latency experienced with G.INP from a Huawei cabinet when the customer's equipment isn't capable of bidirectional G.INP. I understood the original post to be about a new firmware for the Home Hub 5A which improves its G.INP compatibility, presumably by deploying a later DSL blob from the chipset manufacturer.

Assuming these are two separate trials, they appear to be complimentary efforts. It is in customer's interests to have devices capable of taking advantage of G.INP to the greatest extent possible, together with mitigation of the substantial latency increase experienced in the initial G.INP deployment if their device is not capable of bidirectional G.INP.

Please, as a side issue, could you clarify what should be at the bottom right of the linked pic. The "How to reboot" instructions look most peculiar.

I agree with the above. I have been involved in the trial and my firmware hasn't updated but my speeds are back up to what they used to be.

UPDATE

Spoke too soon, I just rebooted my HH5 and the firmware is now showing 4.7.5.1.83.8.204.1.11 (Type A)

"Thank you for your continued patience. As you know Openreach recently carried out a trial to address the reports on this thread with regards to G.INP. Openreach are very happy with the results of the trail and after some consultation they have now decided to roll this fix out across the network.

The repair is due to roll out for all relevant customers within the next few weeks, but unfortunately we are not able to put anyone to the head of the queue

I would like to thank everyone that has contributed on this thread and for the patience you have shown."

That sounds like the regular remote reboots, we get the exact same thing on our HH4 for our ADSLx connection.

Well we get reset every two weeks remotely.

We also have loads of the following:
08:56:50, 22 May. (1038058.990000) CWMP: session completed successfully
08:56:50, 22 May. (1038058.790000) CWMP: HTTP authentication success from https://pbthdm.bt.mo

08:56:46, 22 May. (1038054.370000) CWMP: Initializing transaction for event code 4 VALUE CHANGE
And every two weeks we get something like this which forces our router to reboot:
08:38:29, 10 May. ( 172.900000) CWMP: session completed successfully
08:38:29, 10 May. ( 172.680000) CWMP: HTTP authentication success from https://pbthdm.bt.mo

08:37:55, 10 May. ( 138.170000) CWMP: session closed due to error: WGET TLS error
And just before that we get this:
07:37:26, 10 May. ( 129.090000) CWMP: Server URL: https://pbthdm.bt.mo; Connecting as user: ACS username
07:37:26, 10 May. ( 129.080000) CWMP: Session start now. Event code(s): '1 BOOT,4 VALUE CHANGE'

07:36:11, 10 May. ( 54.160000) CWMP: Initializing transaction for event code 1 BOOT
I am assuming that HH5x have different logs than the HH4x

So tempted to replace our HH4 (Type A) for our FRITZ!BOX 3390.

The latency seems ok now. A gaming server I regularly play on with a ping of 30 shot up to over 40, it is now back to 30ms

indeed the original post was about the eci stuff but im sure theres been several posts that say that both the eci's and the hub5a have the same chipset and that theres quite a few people with just a hub5a and no modem on huawei cabs so surely by fixing one theve gone a long way to fixing the other.

as for latency as above mine has gone back to hovering around 20ms which is where it was before G.INP was enabled.

I applied to trial the firmware for the HH5A away back at the end of last year, this is the second firmware, last time the update really improved the WIFI.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/4382808018.png

Speeds aren't bad on wifi even with the G.INP issue, I topped bout 74meg before... upload higher than i used to, latency has risen bout 8-10ms though

He's lost 5+mbps on his upstream, he's now down to 11000kbps meanwhile I can achieve 25000+ upstream and both our lines are in the same bundle back to cabs..

You "could" if Openreach provided a product that would go that high.

Yes I wouldn't mind Openreach making a product like 100/30 / 90/30...
personally I think they should have set the speeds speeds as follows:

30/10
60/20
90/30
100/40 (Maybe pushing it for FTTC anyway)

I sync at 20000 (G.INP) last time I looked but currently my modem isn't connected to router (apart for WAN of course)

But I will have to as I'm interested in comparing stats also..

You can connect LAN2 of the modem to any spare Ethernet port on your router. It's only the flashing process that is special. This is assuming you have everything on the same subnet of cause - the bridged modem part included.

Also may notice that my max attainable upstream sync has now dropped to 21000 from the earlier quoted 25000...

and someone said that G.INP wasn't required!

I've rebooted the modem as its been up for 12/13 days... record breaking in thi house... HeHe!

Now synced down at 67000+ which is a slight improvement over 66000... specially for this time of night...

Your line stats look virtually identical so I can't see what the new firmware would give you. Are you on a Huawei cabinet also?

Yeah - https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5509/10910754085_428e8...

I think Openreach resolved the G.INP themselves, the firmware was fixes for other things i guess

exactly... suppose like kids... they like making a mess but not cleaning it up!

they could of at least stood by their mistakes and tried to rectify them, not just brushed them under the carpet!

The problem is that your device doesn't work with G.INP. To fix it, you should get a device that does work, not have Openreach turn it off for everyone.

You can easily buy an HG612 and plug the HH5A into that. The HG612 would handle the G.INP.
