Infinity 1 vs 2

[link to this post]

Hi all,

Just a quick question regarding bt infinity 1/2

Does infinity 2 have priority over 1 like business broadband has?

Broadband Providers Aol(Adsl) /O2(Adsl)/Virgin Media(Cable)/BE(Adsl)/BT(Adsl)/BTW infinity80/20/Talktalk 80/20/BT INFINITY 80/20..

No. Just different maximum sync's.

So if your estimate is below 55Mbps (or not much above) then only go for Infinity 2 if the upstream estimate is well above 10Mbps and you want more than 10Mbps upstream

Thanks for the reply..

Reason I ask I was on 2 but ever since switching to 1 everything feels slower and longer to load.. Could be a coincidence

Anytime anything seems a bit slower or takes longer than normal you notice it. The rest of the time when things are just as fast or faster you don't notice it.

You should make frequent use of the various Speed Testers available, such as TBB (this site) BTW, ookla etc, to have objective assessments over substantial (calendar) periods.

If you had started earlier during your BT 1 period, you could now be making informed judgements.

My daughter has switched providers twice recently, BT (1 or 2, not sure), SKY, now on BT1 around 55/20 contractual; but only marginally above my 40/10 contract - running at about 37/9 reasonably constant, hers is now about 38/10 average BUT erratic from about 25 up to 45, very similar distances etc; but distinctly different behaviour. Different FTTCs and PCPs, same exchange.

On the previous contracts/ISPs, the actual measured performances were distinctly worse than my line.

Still trying to work out why!

Yes I have a bit slower than infinity 2 speeds..

What I have noticed is the sync speed with a big drop with 2 I got 54meg out of a possible max of 56 but now with 1 I get 46 from a possible 55 max sync

That should not be happening as the speed tiers are identical VDSL2 signalling, just the capped maximum is different.

So suggests a DLM reset has resulted in it changing its mind, e.g. could be the difference between a core stable setting and a core fastest setting.
