Modem + Wifi AP recommendations?

[link to this post]

Hi, i'm looking to cover my house better with 5ghz.

It is a 3 storey, i moved the BT home hub 5 to the middle landing. 2.4ghz is hit and miss due to neighbour congestion. 5ghz is solid but doesn't travel far enough.

Airport Extreme i had from before doesn't seem any more capable than the HH5 for 5ghz distance.

I was actually going to get a HH6/Smart Hub, reviews seem to like it, forums do not.

Now back to square 1.

Had this problem 2 years ago and bough a highly recommended VDSL router back then (can't remember which) but always came out top back then. The sync speed was consistently less by a few Mbps.

So, any tips on getting the fastest sync with BT infinity + excellent 5ghz coverage without repeating?

BT Infinity with max line speed of 52Mbps and i connect between 49 and 51Mbps.

thank you

Given reported sync and product, then if existing device is giving good and stable sync, perhaps turn off Wi-Fi on it and use one or two wireless access points connected via Ethernet cable to the main modem/router, i.e. router in optimal location for broadband and then an access point on top and bottom floors.

The HH6 has relatively the same 5Ghz coverage. I have 2 and have no issues with them.
The only solution is to implement multiple APs around the household.
You will need to run ethernet cabling between the APs.

I'd look at powerline adapters if Ethernet isn't an option.

Either one with wifi or perhaps just add a wireless access point at the end of it.

I've been in 4 houses now and in each one powerline haven't been overly reliable for various reasons. I personally cannot recommend them what-so-ever.

I've gone with the Huawei HG612 3B modem with USG and UniFi AP AC Pro.

Best buy ever. Full WiFi coverage in every rooms. Kids & wife happy. Well worth the money spent.

I've used powerline from my router to the area behind my main TV for years. It then connects to a switch that provides Ethernet to a TV, Apple TV and Sky box.

Ethernet is obviously preferable but I can max out my 40Mbit broadband from this Switch without any problems and used it for BT TV in 4K.
