"BT has been listening to its Communications Provider (CP) customers over the last few months on the best way to introduce next generation broadband services, offering high speed broadband at up to 24Mbps, to the UK.
BT will continue to deliver, as far as possible, against existing availability dates, which means that it will launch the new service, including the availability for CPs to place orders, for around five percent of the UK customer base from April 2008, rising incrementally to around 50 percent of the UK market by April2009.
Within the next few weeks BT will begin a three phase trial programme with detailed industry
involvement to help ensure the new service meets CP and end user requirements for quality and reliability. Stage 1 starts on October 1, 2007 with a trial in the West Midlands. This will be followed with an extended trial, or stage 2, with three CPs involved from November 1st and the final customer trial, or stage 3, with up to 10 CPs actively involved, from mid January 2008. This three stage trial will lead to the commercial launch of the new service from April 2008."
