Am i on 20CN or 21CN?

[link to this post]

A couple of days ago Virgin did some 'maintenance' at the exchange. Before they did anything i was getting 8128kbps downstream and 448kbps upstream (roughly). Since they did anything though the downstream is 8000kbps and the upstream has gone up to 1056kbps.

21CN has also been enabled according to samknows in the last few months.

I'm i still on 20CN or have i moved to 21CN? I thought if i was moved to 21CN then i should get up to 24mbps not 8mbps.

Thanks

8000 is still in the range 0 up to 24Mbps of course.

Whether the line can run faster when going from ADSL to ADSL2+ modes depends on the line stats, and without those hard to say much, i.e. attenuation, noise margins and line speeds.

What is most likely in your case is the Virgin has moved you off of the BT hardware one C&W LLU hardware and assigned an 8Meg profile to you. Virgin use C&W where they can as its cheaper than the BT equivalient.

Neither!

You are most likely on somebody's LLU (C&W's as Andrew says). LLU is where the ISP puts their own kit in the exchange and has nothing to do with BT's 21CN.

What exchange? Post the link from http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search

Even if your line is capable of more than 8 Meg, you may be paying for 8 Meg only and VM have capped you accordingly.

C&W isn't available at my exchange.

Here's the exchange.

Here's my line stats:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8000 Kbps 1056 Kbps
Line Attenuation 35.3 dB 20.5 dB

Try running the BT speedtester - that'll give an indicate if you're on BT still or not.

Good idea!

OP won't be on IPStream as his Up Sync is not 448 Kbps, but I suppose VM could be White Labelling BT's 21CN WBC like Orange is.

I'm not sure he'll be on C&W LLU either.

They generally have a 1023k up stream limit. I've only seen a handful of lines go over. The 9db downstream SNR is suspicious though as that is their default.

I've just run the BT speedtester and i came back with this.

Download speedachieved during the test was - 6429 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 2000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8000 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1056 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7058 Kbps

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 871 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 1056 Kbps

Also i don't know if this is related or not but i'm not really able to stream any video. Youtube and other video streams are very slow to the point i can't watch them because it's taking to long to download.
