BT to further extend ADSL2+ coverage

[link to this post]

BT has announced that it is to extend the availability of its next-generation ADSL broadband service (ADSL2+) to a further 2.5 million homes.

Around 900,000 of these are in rural areas and BT promises that many will see download speeds double.

BT had already pledged to roll out its faster ADSL technology to 80% of the UK and this latest announcement means it will now reach 90%.

Multiple media sites covering this including the BBC

any idea which exchanges? BBC et al don't seem to have specifics. Can't find anything interesting from BT either yet, this spreadsheet hasn't been updated as far as I can see.

Don't believe any words from BT, always a failure, always broken promises and well truely outdated.

My 1415 line exchange has been announced: Nether Stowey (WWNETH): http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/WWNETH

It's about time as well. I would be interested in finding a list of the exchanges as my exchange is the only one in the area being upgraded to 21CN (There are loads of 20CN exchanges around).

If anyone has the list, please let me know smile

The government has promised to make the UK the fastest broadband nation in Europe by that date (2015), following years of languishing in the middle of the speed league tables.

My brackets.

What's your take on the progress of this Andrew? Also, can the UK easily be the fastest in Europe without improving rural speeds (i.e. provide 40 Meg to 80% of the population and raise the average massively)?

Fore gone conclusion once you balance

Speed available
Price per Mbps
Coverage
Retail Competition etc

It is not a simple be at the top of the speedtest league table.

In essence to win things like Akamai leagues people have to buy into the super-fast products

2012 will see 100Mbps to 50% of population, add FTTC and its >25Mbps to around 57% of country. Add the various bids for BDUK superfast funding and 80% looks simple by 2015.

UK will hit the EU target of half homes for 100Mbps by 2020 eight years early.

Oddly in Denmark I hear the same complaints as we get in the UK and adverts are still for 4 to 8Mbps products in last Autumn/Winter (visit a few times each year)

Well, unfortunately for BT my rural backwater had the barn doors flung open by TT and Sky last year, too little too late BT. I think I will give BT the same commitment, nothing!

My views are my experiences.
