Advice please

[link to this post]

I am on ADSL Max on a pretty stable line. For several months have had a BT profile of 3000kbps and got download speeds of around 2750 kbps. Just over a week ago had a power cut which caused the router to resync at just above 4000kbps and a few days later a second power cut caused a resync to 4480kbps. Two days ago (much more than the normal 3 days) the BT profile finally reset to 3500kbps. However my download speed has remained unchanged at around 2750kbps. Surely as both the sync speed and then the BT profile have increased the download speed ought also to have increased. MAAF, my ISP say their system has picked up the profile increase but they are at a loss to know why the download speed has not increased. They do say, however, that as the speed is within BT's limits for my line they cannot raise this with them.

Surely there is something wrong here?

According to the Plusnet reps on this forum, there can be "an imbalance" somewhere else within the BT system, even when their copy of the IP Profile agrees with the BT Speed Test one. This is a mystery to everyone I have asked, but Plusnet reps seem to be able to cure it.

Are you able to see what the copy is through your MAAF control panel? Plusnet customers can see it in theirs - called Current line rate.

If you get nowhere, I suggest you post in the Plusnet forum here. I expect they look in the MAAF one as well but I don't monitor that one myself.

Many thanks for your advice on this. I have now posted on the MAAF forum in the hope that a PlusNet rep will pick it up and repond.

Hunted around in both your links, and then found it by going to:

Thanks in return, that'll help me signpost it for the next asker smile. It comes up quite often. In fact I'll put it on my website today or tomorrow, on this page.
