21CN WBC May 2012

[link to this post]

Still can't quite believe it, but looks like my exchange (Freethorpe) is getting 21CN WBC in May this year

I've managed to squeeze about 1meg out of my 73db att line using a BT 2wire and faceplate etc

Am I likely to see any improvement in May or should I supress the excitement

Not a lot - kitz reckons possibly up to 1/2 a meg more based on 67db (after which it justs shows 0's), but you may end up introducing stability issues due the extra frequencies ADSL2+ uses.

You wont get any improvement, may even be worse. Best not to force the issue and stay with what you have now.

Although I'm on a very long line, my ping rate is around 30ms - does that improve any hope?

Ping is largely unaffected by the line length, beyond the level of interleaving. So WBC is not going to massively change that either

I've worked on a couple of long lines which saw a small but noticeable improvement when they were moved to 21cn exchange equipment, even when not connecting with ADSL2+. Also note that the BRAS profile system on 21cn is now closely tied to the line speed rather than having coarse steps, so this alone might well give you a higher usable bandwidth for a given sync speed.

Also, depending on the specific kit, there may or may not be a rise in attenuation of up to 3dB.

If there is, the optimum for speed and stability may be ADSL2 rather than 2+, thus bringing the attenuation back down. Or ADSL2 may be best anyway.

my sync speed is around 1300/1400 so you never know

I guess I'll just have to wait and see

With 21CN you 'should' see improvements to the IP Profiling system.
So this could benefit you smile

Slightly faster profiles, quicker recovery if you should get a low sync, possibly more control over your line, etc.

Please let us know how things work out for you.
