Upgrading from 8 to 20mbps WBC

[link to this post]

hi,

received an email from my isp saying my 2 broadband connections will be upgraded to upto 20 meg tommorow, wondering if i will see any increase in speed.

router stats are:

line 1:
Line state Connected
Connection time 2 days, 23:23:11
Downstream 5,504 Kbps
Upstream 448 Kbps
ADSL settings
VPI/VCI 0/38
Type PPPoA
Modulation ITU-T G.992.1
Latency type Interleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up) 5.9 dB / 18.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 46.0 dB / 25.5 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 19.8 dBm / 12.3 dBm

line 2

Connection information
Line state Connected
Connection time 1 day, 0:32:20
Downstream 6,048 Kbps
Upstream 448 Kbps
ADSL settings
VPI/VCI 0/38
Type PPPoA
Modulation ITU-T G.992.1
Latency type Interleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up) 5.1 dB / 19.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 46.0 dB / 27.5 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 19.8 dBm / 12.1 dBm

the attenuation on line 1 sometimes changes from 47 to 46 db. line 2 generally connects faster as the line is only a year old.

I suggest you have a browse of the Ring/Bell wire and Miscellaneous nasties pages in my Troubleshooting section. Both lines should be getting over 6Mbps fairly easily at the moment.

As for ADSL2+, not too much hope of more frown.

My domains, website and mail hosting - Tsohost. Internet connection - Plusnet Value Fibre.

ring wire removed from line 1, line 2 has no extentions. both are the newer openreach faceplates.

You will benefit from better line management on 21CN which is good! smile

Possibly a lower Target SNR (3db) if your line is stable which will increase your sync. And faster IP Profile recovery etc. if you should have a low sync smile

Remember to report back to let us know how things pan out...

How fast does WBC run compared to a standard profileless LLU service?

My line is very similar to the OP's in stats, line 1 is identical to be precise.

More or less the same but you & OP won't benefit from it.

From the line profiling and ADSL2 standard we probably would.

If doing a big download I could drop my SNR down to 0.5db and take advantage of faster speeds, unlike ADSL1 where it takes hours and hours for the profile to change.
