Can an exchange get FTTC before BT WBC/21CN?

[link to this post]

My exchange Inverness Culloden has just been announced for FTTC for early next year. However there's no BT ADSL2+ (21CN) availability at this exchange or at some of the others in the list. Just wondering can BT upgrade an exchange to FTTC before its even got BT's own ADSL2+?

Not sure..

As far as I know, WBC is needed to provide the backhaul for FTTC.. Could be wrong though.. or maybe BT do them both at the same time?

TalkTalk 24Mb
Current Line Status

Connection Speed 24575 Kbps 1019 Kbps
Line Attenuation 14.2 dB 5.5 dB
Noise Margin 1.2 dB 11.8 dB

Its possible that the FTTC cabs will be fed back to a nearby exchange that has WBC.

Given proximity to Inverness I would expect the GEA fibre to go back to Inverness.

So yes you can FTTC even if your telephone exchange does not support WBC.

Just to confirm, try looking at Eversley exchange in Berkshire, no WBC on ADSL, but many cabs FTTC, thats fed from Crowthorne exchange.

A question about this Zarjaz smile.

When the fibre is from a different exchange, it is unclear whether it goes through the phone exchange to get there, or whether it is fed direct from the FTTC headend. Which is it please, or could it be either depending on the particular case?

Or maybe direct in that it doesn't enter the phone exchange, but uses the ducting towards it then branches off.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,website and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 55.8/14.5Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

The answer is it varies....

Zero need for the fibre to go to the exchange, but in cases where it makes sense then it probably will, but only in the sense that it is passing through making use of ducting.
