Location of cabinet

[link to this post]

My brother lives in the Cotswolds and is connected to the Blockley (WMBLO) exchange. According to the BT & Fastershire checkers he is connected via cabinet 2 and can receive approx 4-5Mbps (sometimes dropping to 2-3 Mbps).
According to the latest Fastershire update this cabinet will NOT be upgraded as part of the initial rollout (due end 2015ish) and may not now be upgraded until 2018/19.

Does anyone know where cabinet 2 is located, as it seems to host the whole of the village of Bourton-on-the-Hill, thus removing the option for decent high speed broadband from the area?

Presumably the only option now is to investigate satellite broadband and see what's available there.

So if was upgraded would benefit the village

To be honest if you have 2-3 Mbps and sometimes 4 to 5 I'd stick with that rather than using satellite

Has the connection moved from ADSL to ADSL2+ yet? The WBC service will be a lot better as IP profile system is better and you should get some more upload. NOTE: If the retailer is Sky or TalkTalk they tend to not bother with this upgrade.

Thanks MrS, the connection has been upgraded to ADSL2+ and gives us a sync speed of:
Downstream 6,144 Kbps
Upstream 448 Kbps
running from the test socket (line not used for phone).

TBB speedtest: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html...

Village population is supposedly ~300 so presumably not considered financially viable frown

If it was actually WBC the upload speed would usually not be fixed at 448 Kbps.

The line should rate adapt the upstream and thus you will see people on 0.6, .7, .8 Mbps depending on the distance.

Ooops!
Checked hub and it says it's G.992.1 annex A. I thought it had been upgraded last year when he went unlimited.
So a request to move to ADSL2+ / WBC might give him a better upload and possibly better download?

It may well do, try http://www.coolwebhome.co.uk/calc which will estimate a possible speed from the stats

Another advantage is that peak time performance is generally better on WBC ADSL2+
