"Premise Environment" section of BT Wholesale DSL Checker

[link to this post]

I notice that there is now a section on the DSL checker at dslchecker.bt.com that reports on the premises situation of the line. (I'm sure it has been there for some time, but I have only just noticed it). It contains the following entries:

Bridge tap
VRI
NTEFaceplate
Last test date

I know what a bridge tap is, what I don't know is what it means if there is a "U" against bridge tap. I would guess it means "unknown", since other lines I have tested have an N for the bridge tap info, which presumably means "no". VRI is apparently Voice ReInjection, and NTEFaceplate is I'm assuming what it says, although the line was installed afresh just over 2 years ago with the then-current NTE5 so I'm not sure why it says "N" for my line.

Can anyone shed any light on what "U" means for the bridge tap bit?

Yes, it does mean Unknown. Mine says N for Bridge Tap but also N for NTE but I have an engineer fitted 5c and apparently, each socket has a digital signature so why mine says N is anyone's guess.

Well I have been checking random addresses on my exchange and I am not seeing anything like what you two are referring to.

So it must be selected areas on selected exchanges that have this.

I assume this is when you have or can get FTTC?

I get that info for my FTTC connection (which also states there is no NTE despite it being an engineer install when I had FTTC put in). I also get that info when looking at an FTTP premises on another exchange 7 miles down the road.

Well I have been checking random addresses
The additional information is only displayed when checking a phone number rather than an address.

Ah, I will have to ait until December when BT installs a FTTC to see, so I will have a choice of FTTP and FTTC, not that I will change.

Ah, well I cannot check by phone number due to my phone is via FVA so my landline number no longer works on the BT DSL Checker, BTOR Where and When Page, BTW Speed checker etc.

It basically says the following on the BT DSL Checker:
There is no data available for this number. This could be either because it is not a BT line or it is a new BT number that has just been provided. Most new numbers will appear on the checker 24 hours after BT has installed the line.

BTOR Where and when page says the following:
Sorry, your number or postcode was not recognised. Please try an alternative.

And the BTW Speed test just fails when I enter in my phone number on the second part.

The annoying thing is BT are aware of this issue and say they are working on it, but its been like this sine November last year, so nearly a year now.

And on top of that BT online Speed Test they have on the site, i.e. the one the Smart Hub takes you to just fails to recognize my phone number so fails to run the test.

I wouldn't think it would, but I have checked on FTTC addresses, but was then told it shows up via land line numbers, which was why I said I cannot check by that due to being on FVA.

Plus I never said it would.

In addition it would have to be per phone number as a single address could have multiple lines and each line might have different results for each of those data points.

Still doesn't explain why it is saying N for NTE though.

Yep, I just did that for a shop round the corner from me that can also get FTTP it returned the following which I think you were referring to.

Premise | Status
environment |
-----------------+-------------
Bridge Tap | U
VRI | N
NTEFaceplate | N
Last Test Date | 17-05-2017

And this one:

Premise | Status
environment |
-----------------+-------------
Bridge Tap | U
VRI | --
NTEFaceplate | --
Last Test Date | --

So now I can see what you all meant now and if my landline wasn't on FVA and still on copper I would see the same or similar information.
