DG834GT users: SNR N values

[link to this post]

For those with the DG834GT router who want to experiment with their SNR N values, here is what i found for the adslctl configure --SNR N values to be:
(to recap)
so, once you clicked on this:
http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug
telneted into the router:
telnet 192.168.0.1
and type this:
/usr/sbin/adslctl configure --snr N

these are my values for N and resulting SNR.

N SNR
50 7
60 7.6
70 8.3
80 8.9
90 9.4

Hope this helps someone.

what does the N value stand for?

I've got something similar on mine

adsl configure [--mod <a|d|l|t|2|p|e|m>] [--lpair <(i)nner|(o)uter>]
[--trellis <on|off>] [--snr <snrQ4>] [--bitswap <on|off>] [--sra <on|off>]

-> adsl --version
adsl version 1.0
ADSL PHY: AnnexA version - A2pB018c1.d16d

The n value is the number you put in to get the required SNR eg

adsl configure --snr 70

for 8.3 db

Bulldog super@ctive 4Mb
Downstream 3846 Kbps (480.8 KB/sec) 4153 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 492 Kbps (61.5 KB/sec) 531 Kbps (inc. overheads)

You are approximately 1.83km from the exchange (straight line distance).

I was going by shyboy's figures. the number you put in is not the required snr value but a calculated value (previously though to be required snr * 16). I would agree with shyboy that this is not correct but have not had a chance to test these new figures to agree or disagree. Hopefully that makes sense!

I just entered a value for N equal to the SNR I wanted and it connected just fine as per this post from a couple of weeks back

http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=bulldog&Number=2024918&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1

Currently connected at 8mb with an SNR of 6.9db after using 6 as the value for SNR.

Have you tried differtent snr values such as 8 or 9. I'll give it a go later and see if we can come up with a definative set of numbers.

I would suggest we try 6,7,8,9,10,50,60,70,80,90 and record the snr values for each

Downstream 3846 Kbps (480.8 KB/sec) 4153 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 492 Kbps (61.5 KB/sec) 531 Kbps (inc. overheads)
