Degrading performance now unusable

Subject says it all really. My Demon connection has become almost unusable for iplayer in the last month. speedtest.net generally gives 1.4mbit download speed at all times of day and night.

I have been a demon customer for 15 years and am now close to leaving as my router reports a 7616kbps downstream connection but I haven't ever seen that.

Best speedtest was 6mbit about 18 months ago, dropped to 3mbit a year ago and now 1.5 all the time (at least the last month or so).

Any clues?

I'm on homeoffice i think and should get "up to 8mbit" ...

There may be a techical reason. Please run a BT Performance Test and post the full results until the end of the upload speed result.

Also what exchange are you on? If you don't know, put your phone number into this checker and post the URL of the result. That will let us check for a common form of exchange congestion, and also see what you could move to if you choose.

Demon do have "issues" at the moment
Download Speed: 1595 kbps (199.4 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 373 kbps (46.6 KB/sec )
using speedtest.bbmax.co.uk

I see fairly persistent packet loss and they've been asking for testers to sign up for samknows monitoring boxes. My Broadband Ping

Download speedachieved during the test was - 2269 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.

Your DSL Connection Rate :7616 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6500 Kbps

1584kbps down, 6500 profile, 7616 link. That's from a bt speedtest.

Exchange is THCN.

have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the PPP session ? I read in demon.service of people having success with this so I just did it and got a three fold speed increase :-

No VP congestion.

Be, Be resellers, (all partial LLU), and Opal Wholesale resellers (partial or full LLU), or of course TT itself which I doubt if you would want.

Reboot no difference, tried that. I notice as5587.net (C&W) is knackered right now, not that it makes much difference, but thought the latency numbers were quite revealing.

Dude, I complained on twitter and got a call and the nice lady said they know they have issues at the moment, and she was "sorry" Then I read this and disconnected and reconnected and got a 4 fold increase in speed, upto 2 meg now woooo weeeeeeeeee iPlayer working again smile
