Well, since requesting a MAC code my downstream performance has improved to 5.5mb. Could just be a coincidence. The traceroute issue is still there tho...

traceroute to www.demon.net (212.69.213.230), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

Add me to the list of people complaining about Demon's abysmal performance these days. Used to be one of the best, and now one of the worst.

Currently getting 0.8 mbps, and it was much the same on Friday 18 February. Normally it's around 2.9, which is about as good as it gets round here (exchange distance), but frequently now we get whole days when the speed's around 0.8.

Demon have no explanation for it at all, and after hours of 'tests' (most by me) they gave up on it altogether.

Call centre useless, as always, and I see they've now made things even worse than they were already by cutting the opening hours back to 0800 - 2000. Great!

What I can't understand (and neither, it seems, can Demon) is why most days are fine at 2.9, but others are unusable at 0.8, or even lower.

is your router sync speed consistent through this, and only the throughput varying ?

Sorry - I'm a bit techno-challenged when it comes to routers. Happy to learn, though - how would I tell?

look at the router interface - probably on a 192.168.1.x address where x = 1 or 254

what's the router ? http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php may help

Thanks.

Belkin F5D8636-4 v1 (01)

Showing: Data rate(Kbps) - 4000Kb downstream 448Kb upstream

But Demon's now back up to 2.9 mbps again.
