Have been experiencing more problems with Demon, I really should leave.
I just noticed on the speedtest.net that the AVERAGE download speed for all Demon users was just under 4.5MBps when the UK average was about 10MBps.
Are they the worst for "up to 8MBps" Broadband?

Turns out I have exceed the 60GB a month limit and am now capped at 128k!
Must confess, I am by no means a heavy user, iPlayer and YouTube are proly the main offenders here.
Find it mildly ironic that the second I go over 60GB my line is throttled without notice and when my speed drops to poor service they do nothing.
But its ok, coz its only throttled between 9am and 11pm. LOL.

Don't think the average is 10mbps at all. Currently I'd stick my finger in the air and guess at something more around 6mbps. Those averages per ISP however on Speedtest.net vary based on technical knowledge of consumer, and business use. For example, an ISP could have several leased line connections bumping up their "Average"

that's what you signed up for, knowingly or otherwise. https://usage.demon.net/ shows your usage.
Tiscali & Tesco produce lower speeds than Demon around here.

I suggest that you take a look at the "THINK BROAD BAND" Maps in your area.
Generally ignore those results involving fewer than 10 Tests.
I have been on ORANGE/WANADOO/Freeserve since about 1997.
On the TBB Map, my own series of tests show the following results-
1.2 Km "phone distance" from Exchange by BT Checker
"Up to 8 Mbps".
151 TBB Tests
(The earlier, slower, "up to 2 Mbps have been removed recently, there would be about 300 total if they were included!)
4.08 Mbps Average Download
ranging over
0.62 Mbps to 6.42 Mbps
0.36 Mbps Average Upload
ranging over
0.32 Mbps to 0.37 Mbps
The majority of those tests have been done from my Tower PC, Ethernet cable connected to the Orange Livebox.
About 20% have been done from both a Netbook and a Laptop, both WiFi connected to the Livebox, at 54 Mbps..
All are spread over day & night, including the "wee sma' 'oors".
So generally a real, extended test of the Broadband connection.

Well BE Internet just activated and I went from 3mbps to 14mbps, costs a lot less too. So no they don't have to charge me more.
I was a Demon customer from 92 and the 'FUP' came in after I joined, so now it has affected me I'm outta there.
I note that on the ISPreview site Demon come 49th in their top 50 from user ratings.

Given UK line length distribution 4.5Meg as an average for an up to 8Meg service is pretty good.
That is assuming the Demon number is just up to 8Meg tests, and not also including customers with leased line, ADSL2+ or on C&W network.
