No Speed Demon

[link to this post]

Hi,

Has anybody noticed that through put speeds seem to have fallen through the floor since Saturday?

Despite being synced at 11996 (down) and 1019 (up) I've had the Google search page time out.

Last time this happened the Demon status page had warning about some Demon users service being degraded and that engineers where investigating and my line went back to normal after a router reboot.

No such message this time and several reboots have not helped.

Phone line seems ok voice wise.

Any ideas?

My downlink has been around 0.15 Mbps since Sunday. Uplink is at 0.7Mbps which is usual for my ADSL. Chatted to helpdesk (instant answering) and I was asked to do a series of speed tests, trace routes etc and e-mail them with the data. They phoned back to say they had it, and they phoned me again today telling me it was a fault in their network.
Their status page now says "Some Premier Broadband, SDSL, Business and Home user Broadband customers may experiencing slow broadband services. Engineers are investigating." but I see there are also un cleared faults going back to Sunday (4 days ago).
My silent line check was OK.
So it seems I have an ISP who has a very responsive helpdesk and a very unresponsive engineering team.
Should have left years ago.

Might want to keep an eye on the following Goggle group. "Drop in speed" thread says it all.

Thanks for that link.
I have foolishly been with Demon for 20 years. My first speed was 28Kbps rising to 56Kbps.
We are almost back there now!

At 13:00 they phoned me to tell me they had fixed it. All I had to do was reboot the modem. Unfortunately my performance got worse; download now 0.2Mbps.
At 14:15I had a 'chat' with the helpdesk.
"Rajesh: I'm sorry. We got an update from our engineers saying it was fixed.
Me: Not for me, it isn't
Rajesh: However they came back again saying the issue is still there now.
Rajesh: So just give us sometime.
Me: This has been almost 5 days
Rajesh: I do agree with you.
Rajesh: However our engineers started working on this only from yesterday afternoon.
Me: I am not hassling you. 5 days is too long for a fault fix. Why did they wait until yesterday afternoon. There are people complaining about it in various forums since Monday. Still I don't suppose you can do anything about it from your location
Rajesh: Im sorry youve had such a bad experience. Id like to try and help. But I do not have the resourse to do that."

13:30 I seem to be back at my pathetic 4.9Mbps. I can't quite relax though, yet

As the thread died 4 months ago I guess the problem was fixed or the poster migrated long ago.
