Lens Choice

[link to this post]

I have a Canon EOS 50D which was supplied with a 17-85mm lense. The Lens next to this I have is a Sigma 70-300mm telephoto lens. I am looking for a lens that would fit in between these two. Have been looking at a Canon 18-270mm lens with image stabilising.

Can anyone suggest an alternative?

Have there been any reviews of this lens? I'd compare it with the Canon 55-250 IS, especially as you've already got the 17-85mm.

Guess it basically boils down to the Tamron 18-270mm or the Sigma 18-250mm. Both lenses seem to be very highly rated by owners. I've owned the Sigma 18-200m in Nikon fit some years back and it was a great lens, better IMHO than the Nikon in many areas so if it were me I'd probably lean towards the Sigma ..... just. End of the day they are both really good lenses.

My son has the Tamron on his Canon, his only comment AFAIK is that the focussing is a bit slow. I guess that's compared to Canon lens which seem fast to me.

See this Tamron review and this Sigma review.
