Accessing your Router with IE8

[link to this post]
I just had a major panic. Wanted to access my router and typed in
the relevant IP adress. Login info failed. Tried everything I had ever known and used. Searched in Google. Nothing. Nada. Zilch!

In a flash of inspiration I fired up Firefox and in it went with my usual login.

Anyone else had problems with IE8?

Yup unable to log into either of my Speedtouch routers thru internet explorer 8 'login failed'
Think its got something to do with the security settings in ie8 they changed something
found a post about it at the microsoft support site no solution offered at the time.
Back to firefox! Back to the Belkin!

For Speedtouch routers:

Start / Run: fill in: CMD, Press OK
In the DOS box (black screen) type in:
telnet 192.168.1.254 <enter>
Username:????? <enter>
Password:????? <enter>
On the telnet prompt enter:
system config digestauth=disabled <enter>
type in: saveall <enter>
Close the window & try your SpeedTouch

Unfortunately, this config is st if you restart the router

The alternative is to use another browser

You can automate this using the TST10 telnet client:

Upgraded to IE8 today, just tried getting in to my Netgear 834PN as a result of this thread. No problem at all.

Installed Crome, nothing but trouble, uninstalled it, back to IE8 smile

Some like firefox, some like IE and others like something else. The choice is yours.

This is specifically an IE8 and speedtouch problem as noted above.

In reply to a post by Banger:

I see no reference to speedtouch in the OP, and the poster has not posted again in the thread. Please note it is the OP that I replied to.

Edit - in fact I see no statement by anyone that it is specifically to do with SpeedTouch. Just that a solution for SpeedTouch has been provided.
