hard drive

Hi all, Doe's anybody know a good supplier where I can get a hard drive (ST3250620AS) or the equivilent as mine's making so much noise lately, And I think it's about to give up the ghost, details

I think that's a SATA drive. Any old SATA from http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/products/a502x1y0... should fit the bill. Personally I'd go for at least a 500GB replacement.

Personally I'd go for at least a 500GB replacement.
I wouldn't, [censored] nightmare when you have to defrag them or do low level data recovery on one that big.

Sensible partitioning would solve any defrag issues but you're right about recovery processes. However, with decent backup provision in place, even that shouldn't present too much of a problem.

Defrag? Is that some archaic Windows invocation? I force a disk check once a month whether I need it or not on all disks/partitions, takes about quarter of an hour.

If you have bought a "large" new drive (>250GB say) it may be worth asking for advice on how to partition it for use under Vista. As others have posted there may be better solutions than a single partition occupying the whole drive. Typically, under Windows, the first partition will be C:, with subsequent partitions being named D:, E:, etc. (just saying this to point out there is no problem in accessing the other partitions).
