Considering Draytek Vigor 2820

[link to this post]
Am looking for a new ADSL2+ router (wireless not required) and the Draytek Vigor 2820 has been suggested ass an option. Has anyone had experience of the Draytek, comments welcome!

Thanks

I have one of these, the non wireless version. I personally find it great, better sync than the sky router, and far more features.

The VPN is very useful for me running a small business with colleagues working from home can link in and share files.

The USB port can be a network drive and printer at the same time with a hub, and since the latest firmware only reboots have been as a result of my fiddling

I'm using one on my BE line, had it since March 2009 - excellent bit of kit. It gives me the same sync and throughput as my BE supplied BeBox router. Rumour has it the 2820 uses an Infineon chipset, which on my BE line works as well as the supplied Broadcom.

The 2820 range are the first Draytek routers to be WiFi certified, but note the N support is still DRAFT. The 3 antennas with MIMO function has eliminated the dead spots in my flat, and I only use my work laptop (ThinkPad with G wireless) and my iPhone.

Recommended - but expensive. I have the 2820Vn with wireless and VoIP support.

The 2820 is on my wish list.

But, for the moment, I am very happy with my 2600 series routers.

I'm using a 2820, and it's fine, with one problem - its networking capabilities far outweigh mine ! I'm still trying to get my head around some of the features.

what sort of things? Most of the routing stuff isn't needed on a single broadband line (either DSL or cable). I'm trying to determine if the unit will allow use of two broadband lines (one DSL, one ethernet or 3G) at the same time - I think you can set the routing to do this through a specific interface.

Yes, it does allow the use of two broadband connections.

The routing options are fairly limitless smile

Yes you can use ADSL and 3G and route traffic based on rules that you set. Before going for the 2820, it's best to make sure that it supports your 3G USB device. Draytek claim that they will change the firmware for support of other devices, but this involves data capture, and sending the data to Draytek, and I've read in forums that they can't always do it. Unfortunately the 2820 doesn't support the ZTE MF636 dongle that Orange supplied me with.
