TG585v7 - Installing Plusnet firmware

[link to this post]

I have a TG585v7 with unbranded firmware version 7.4.4.7

If I install the Plusnet branded version 8.2.6.5 which I can download from their web site:

a) Will I loose any capability?
b) Can I re-install 7.4.4.7?
c) Will the router be locked to Plusnet in any way?
d) Is there any other reason why I might regret doing this?

My main reason for applying the upgrade is that the router occasionally starts to refuse (or continue to allow) wired connections, and has to be rebooted.
Sadly I can't find any suitaboe firmware on the Thomson/Technicolor web site.

If you have a copy of it, and have the means to install it, yes. If you don't have a copy and can't find one online, can you backup your firmware to a disc or USB stick?

Have you been advised by anyone that it is or isn't a good idea? What are your other options?

Drop the router for another.
Drop the ISP for another.
Touch nothing and have the problems continue.

I would seek input from Plusnet to ensure it is the correct course to take. Why do you believe this will fix things?

(I'm not doubting you, so much as adding thoughts to bounce back at you)

Don't you hate it that you can't disable sigs? Ha Ha!

Thanks, I did find what looks like the same firmware from a link on a Greek web site.

I was not very sure whether to trust it though smile

Well I have now installed it and it works fine. Many thanks for your help.
The Windows 7 upgrade wizard which I took from the Plusnet site, makes the upgrade very easy. All my main settings have been retained, the only details that have been lost are the names that I give to the various devices attached to my network.

Where abouts on Plusnet's website is this firmware posted? Wouldnt mind giving it a crack. My 585v7 seems to have a nasty habit of losing all it's config if powered off for any length of time :/ Yes I know.. they're designed to be kept on tongue but even so..

Thanks - but my post was in response to the OP who suggests he obtained official firmware from Plusnet's site
