2wire 2700hg - sync lower than expected

[link to this post]

I'm a bit confused with my 2700hg.

When I click on DSL diagnostics in the MDC, I get the following ouput:

DSL             Down            Up
Current Rate:           2509 kbs                444 kbsMax Rate:               3033 kbs                1108 kbs
Current Connection:        Current Noise Margin:           6.0 dB          14.0 dB

What I don't understand is why it is only syncing at 2509kbps instead of over 3000kbps. Why 500kbps lower every time?

I'm fairly sure, a couple of weeks ago, the rate, the max1 and the max2 values were pretty similar. The only thing that I know of that's happened since then is that I was temporarily banded to 3k. That's since been removed.

Any bright ideas welcomed.

Thanks.

The noise margin is at 6dB so the router has been unable to attain the higher syncs you have seen. Many different factors which can cause this especially when you have such a long line.

I can't remember the definition of Max rate but it could be at zero SNR margin ?

OK, thanks.

I've seen other folks on the net posting their 2700 statistics pages and in some cases their current rate is the same or similar to their max rate. Some even say that they use the value of the max rate as an indicator on when it's safe to resync, as they know they'll not get a lower sync.

I'm pretty sure a week or two back my current and my max were the same. However, after faffing about with my ISP for a bit, getting banded and then unbanded, I seem to have this 500kbps margin consistently.

If you do a re-sync now you may well see an improvement. I could never work out what the correlation was between Rate and Max1 _ I knew however that by careful selection of resync timing I could improve the figure towards Max2. I have had situations where Max1 is less than Rate and similarly Max 2 either in-between or lower than current rate.

Do the reset from
Setting s : Diagnostics : Resets : Reset Broadband

Overall it is not bad for a 70dB + attenuation.

And any chance you can get the columns to line up!

The resync just puts me back on roughly the same lower value. That's what's confusing me.

As for the columns... did try... but tabs within code and pre markups are acting odd smile

Hi MHC, have you any idea if this information from my 2Wire 2700HGV implies the connection is capped at 16384 kbps.

Yes, I believe it does.

When did you last resync? It looks as ythough it was an overnight one - try doing one just after dusk and you will get a slightly better rate and a 6dB margin. That will hold overnight even if it drops to 3 or 4 dB ...

Hi MHC, I switch off my router overnight every night for safety reasons. When I first connected to Orange the router was left on continuously for three weeks and the speed was the same then as it is now, so I reckon my line is capped by the ISP.
I will have to get on to them. Thanks.

You will not change the 16Mb cap but you could improve the 11Mb sync.

M y 2700s - 1 modem/router/WAP and 3 running as WAPs were/are left on continuously. No real problems with overheating - they are all mounted upright. But personal choice comes into it and I do have smoke detectors fitted.
