WNR2000 pages failing to load

[link to this post]

I have a Netgear DG834PN downstairs but being a 3 storey house it struggles on the top floor.

A friend gave me a Netgear WNR2000 (Virgin cable router) and I have put that on the second floor fed by a cat5 from the DG834PN.

I have disabled DHCP on the router and the firewall.

FIrstly with IP's set to dynamic the DHCP server on the DG834PN struggles to hand out IP address to anything connected wirelessly to the WNR.

Ok, so I set static IP's and all has been ok until recently. Now web pages are failing to load through the WNR (wirelessly). If I turn off the wifi aerial on the laptop or iphone and turn it back on everything goes back to normal.

Any idea what is causing this?

Hi, give the laptop wireless adapter a static IP address.

Configure Netgear DG834PN router DHCP range 20 to 250

Laptop Static IP Address must not be within the router DHCP server range.

The wireless access point and main router SSID, I like to have different so I know to which I am connected.

If the Netgear DG834PN Router IP Address 192.168.0.1
Configure laptop wireless adapter.

IP Address: 192.168.0.6 Laptop wireless adapter Static IP Address
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Preferred DNS Server: 192.168.0.1
Alternate DNS Server: Leave blank

Hi E7er,

I have set the DCHP server on the DG834PN to finish at 150.

My laptop, iPhone 4 and iPad all have IP's above 150.

I have turned off the Wireless AP on the DG834PN because the WNR2000 does a brilliant job, the signal is a lot stronger.

I have been completely thrown by this. I have upgraded the firmware on the WNR2000 and my Xbox and PS3 connected to the WNR via Cat5 work fine.

Baffled.

Hi wolvesmad, that sounds a difficult one. I am using a 3Com 3CRWDR101A-75 router as the wireless access point, connected with Ethernet to my BT2700HGV router and get no problems, have you used ipconfig /flushdns on all windows devices.

Given the Netgear DG834PN router an IP address not within DHCP server range

Configure Preferred DNS on all wireless devices with the Netgear DG834PN IP address

Reset your wireless WPA - PSK Password on all devices

Tried different wireless channels

Configure with Windows Wireless-Zero-Configuration.

Do you mean try changing the DG834PN to an address .150 or above?

I will try changing channels, see if that makes a difference.

Preferred DNS is 192.168.1.1 on all devices.

Thanks.

Hi, (Preferred DNS is 192.168.1.1 on all devices) So the Netgear DG834PN router IP address is 192.168.1.1 then.

Make the Netgear DG834PN router DHCP server range Start 20 to 150 End, leaving 1 to 19 and 151 to 255 for static IP addresses.

Hi wolvesmad, I note the Netgear DG834PN router default IP address is 192.168.0.1 have you changed your Netgear DG834PN router IP address from Default 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1

The Preferred DNS server; must be the same as Default gateway; IP address so it points to the main router the way out to the Internet.
