Draytek 2710n s/n margin adjustment

[link to this post]

I'm looking for a new adsl router and, by reading the help on this forum, I've got it down to a Billion 7800n or a Draytek 2710n. I need to tweak the s/n margin in order to get a reasonable connection and I have read that you achieve this on the Draytek by selecting which firmware you load but, look as I will, I can only find one version offered. Can anyone point me at a web site which says something like, "Choose..."?

Thanks,
John

I believe the Billion 7800N will be your best bet as you can change this via the web interface.

Alternatively, if you are happy with doing things via telnet, the Billion 7700N may be an alternative.

Thanks Matt, I'm leaning that way. Do you know if the s/n change survives the Billion being powered off / on? Not the end of the world if it doesn't.

Thanks,

On the 7800N, yes it does.

I have not yet tested the 7700N fully so can't answer on that.

Thanks Matt. I've just done a double take on your original post. You say "via the web interface". Does that mean that there is an "official" way in the Billion web interface of tweaking the s/n margin? How enlightened if so. I did look at the manual and didn't see anything.

Thanks,
John

This may be a bit late now, but I have had several different 'firmwares' on my 2710 and my stats have never changed.

I'm not certain how you came by the information that different firmware can adjust the SNR margin, but in my experience this is not true.

Having said that as I live <1 km from the exchange, my stats are as good as you can get. grin

Sync 8128 (the maximum for my line) SNR 11 Atten 9

If you need to tweak, can do so, with the Billion, it sound like that's the way to go.
