Billion 7800N - impulse noise protection

[link to this post]

For those of you with the Billion 7800N you've probably noticed under config>wan>adsl mode>wan interface there's a "PhyR" setting for downstream/upstream which is not ticked by default. I've just found out from Billion support today that PhyR (pronounced fire) is a technology from broadcom which delivers a ten-fold improvement in noise resilience against impulse noise and delivers a reduction in bit error rates.

So i've enabled it but not sure if it will make much difference on my short-ish line but for those of you on long lines, it might be worth enabling PhyR to see if it helps with your error count smile

TalkTalk Plus LLU ADSL2+ connected @ 18015/1019 kbps
Attenuation 27db down / 9db up
Noise Margin 2.9 db down / 12db up
Powered by Billion BiPAC 7800N

New = announced in 2008:
http://www.broadcom.com/press/release.php?id=1202932

Interesting idea, but it reads as though it needs PhyR support at the DSLAM as well?

It also needs to be supported by your ISPs kit I believe, I think BE* have been looking at it but still haven't activated it. So enabling it just client-side only doesn't have an effect I don't think.
