O2 ADSL replacement router?

[link to this post]

I intend to change my O2 router as it offers me limited options to setup and portforwarding as NAT is almost inexistent if you have static IP. The routers I look for is something based on Broadcom chipset as someone advised me on O2 forum but I cannot decide which one is better and most compatible with O2 broadband.

Thank you

Have a look at this for a start, a lot depends on how much you want to spend and your requirements etc.

This is more expensive and you might not need all it's specs link

The Netgear DG834GT (with the DGTeam firmware) seems to be a popular choice - they often crop up on ebay.

I would like one with Gigabit Ethernet, something powerful to manage P2P very well without any struggle and to support IPv6. I want something like this: http://www.asus.com/Networks/Wireless_Routers/RTN56U/

but with ADSL

Have a look through the DrayTek range as there is bound to be one suitable for your requirements, e.g. maybe the 2830n?

They are quite good too tongue smile

Thank you! I was thinking as well of Billion 7800Nor Draytek Vigor 2830 series but what about a modem ADSL2+ and attached to it an Gigabit router or a switch ? Which one will you recommend?

But one has to wonder how long these museum pieces can continue to provide a reliable service, given their age.

As long as they are 'healthy' it could be years tongue
IPv6 will/could eventually have an impact on legacy routers...

For interest what router are you currently using? smile

EDIT: FWIW I have a brand new DG834GT sitting in a cupboard - just as a backup, backup wink
