Replacement ADSL Modem/Router

[link to this post]

Hello everyone,

we currently have one of these and it's been behaving very strangely recently, including loosing it's ability to provide wireless connectivity.

We realised that we've had it a few years, and it's most likely out of warranty, so are thinking of getting a replacement or a spare decent Modem/Router in case it goes wrong again.

We realistically need/would prefer - something with N capabilities, a black unit which is fairly small (the existing one does not take up that much space), and something that can support faster speeds such as ADSL2/2+ should the time come that BT upgrades the Exchange or we move to another supplier.

Budget is in all honesty about £90 max.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, and feedback on any good recommendations.

Don't they replace it if it breaks? I thought they did.

Usually BT will replace, watch out for them starting a new contract at the same time.

That's my concern, we're contracted till November/December 2012 and I am not eager to stay any longer than that if at all possible.

If worst came to it, what would be a good replacement?

Depending on your budget and requirements, the Billion 7800N is very flexible and for me so far, very reliable. I had a Thomson TG585 v7 supplied to me by Plusnet and that was very solid, though it did very occasionally drop the ASL connection.
